What's in my Bag?: 15 Dance Bag Essentials that Every Dancer Needs in their Bag

Hello everyone, Today I wanted to talk about some essentials to have in your dance bag. Now, I will say that everyone's preferences are different, and the bag sizes will vary as well. These are some of the items that I have in my bag and that I take to dance classes, as well as some other items to consider in your own.

1. Kneepads- In some dance classes, there is often floorwork, and it is really good to have them to protect your knees from bruises. You can often get these at sports stores like Academy, or you can find them on Amazon. Make sure that you get kneepads that fit and are comfortable.

2. Deodorant- You will want to make sure you are not only wearing it, but also have it as a backup so that you can reapply, and once you have sweated it off in class, and not create a bad odor around your fellow dancers.

3. Hair Ties/Pins/Products-These are great to have for styling your hair to get it out of your face and just to keep your hair looking tidy. Brushes are also good to have on hand if you need to fix up your hair.

4. Water Bottle for Hydration- This is so important to have when going to class for just one or multiple. Not every studio will sell water at it if it is needed, so having a good-sized bottle is always good to have with you.

5. Feminine Hygiene Products- These are very important to have during your time of the month, as most dance spaces don't often offer these products in the bathroom. Having your own for your flow type and size in your bag can definitely keep you from having an accident.

6. Extra Clothes/Shoes- If you are taking more than one class that may have a different dress code or different shoes, like heels are good to have for stylistic purposes as well as readiness for your class types that you are taking.

7. Mini First Aid Kit- This is good to have in case you get any small, minor injuries during class, that you may get in class like a small scrape. You can often get these at drug stores like Walgreens or on Amazon. Most dance spaces won't offer a lot of first aid items; having this in your bag is a good thing to have.

8. Towel- Even if the weather is cold, we sweat. You will find yourself wiping off sweat during different periods of the dance class, and it can be dangerous, especially if the dance involves partner work, so consider packing one just in case for not only your safety but the safety of others.

9. Perfume or cologne- If you are having a busy day and didn't have time to shower after all your classes or a rehearsal, a quick spray of your favorite perfume or cologne can help you feel and smell fresh.

10. Snacks- Fruits, nuts, protein bars, or whatever other snacks that you would like for an extra boost of energy can be helpful when you feel drained and need that pick-me-up.

11. Make-Up Bag- Having your make-up essentials in your bag can be great for when you need to do touch-ups or add onto your look for a performance or for filming in class.

12. Your phone charger/power bank- If you happen to be in a class or rehearsal for a long period of time and worry about communication for emergencies or otherwise, I would recommend bringing this item.

13. A Notebook with a Pen- This is a good item to have to keep track of your dance goals, practice information, formations for performances, etc. Having it readily available will make it easier for you to keep track of important information that you might need later on.

14. An extra photo and resume- Even if you aren't attending an audition, you may have an encounter with someone who is interested in working with you. Keeping a copy of your dance resume and a photo in your bag with you, just in case, is a good idea.

15. An Umbrella- This is just a good item to bring to make sure that you don't show up to class or an audition absolutely drenched from outside.

I hope that this list is helpful and something that you can use in the future when preparing to go to classes. Feel free to share this with your friends and let me know down below, what is your favorite dance bag essential item?
